Dat is voor drie verschillende groepen belangrijk:
- Aan de ene kant is psycho-eductie voor de meeste mensen wel zinnig. Iedereen heeft zo z'n 'makken' en we doen er vaak verstandig aan om die een beetje te begrijpen van onszelf.
- Verder is psycho-educatie natuurlijk belangrijk voor mensen met somatische aandoeningen. Niet dat alles maar 'psychosomatisch gemaakt moet worden maar de meeste lichamelijke aandoeningen die geven nogal wat verstoringen van ons normale leven, ons 'gewone' psychische evenwicht.
Voor de somatische patiënt geldt dat psycho-educatie probeert om een zodanige gedragsverandering bewerkstelligen, dat de patiënt beter met de ziekte kan omgaan en minder last van hoeft te hebben. - Verder is psycho-educatie natuurlijk belangrijk voor mensen met duidelijke psychologische problematiek of zelfs psychiatrische storingen. Hoe meer je begrijpt over de manier van omgaan met jezelf, hoe groter de kans dat je met zo min mogelijk extra hulp toekomt.
-Voor mensen met psychiatrische aandoeningen wordt wel als definitie gegeven: "de educatie of training van een persoon met een psychiatrische stoornis, betrekking hebbend op die delen van de persoon, die mogelijkheden bieden tot behandeling of rehabilitatie"*)note

Over "Relaties (en relatieperikelen)"
De volgende pagina's zijn pagina's die gaan over onze sociale kant. een mens is geen eiland. Er zijn filosofen die stellen dat een mens slechts een mens is bij de gratie van andere mensen.
Als je als laatste mens op de wereld zou zijn, ook zonder de hoop dat nog een ander mens bestaat. Zou je jezelf dan nog werkelijk mens voelen?Ach, filosofische bespiegelingen misschien die hier niet zo belangrijk zijn. Waar het om draait is dat erin de relaties tussen mensen nogal eens iets mis gaat.
Dat kan betekenen dat er tussen jou en jouw partner iets mis gaat, of mis dreigt te gaan. Maar als ik het hier over "relaties" heb dan bedoel ik niet alleen maar "relatieperikelen", ik bedoel daarmee ook vriendschapsrelaties, werkrelaties (hoewel die natuurlijk in [supervisie] uitgebreider aan bod komen) en de manier waarop we met onze leefomgeving omgaan.
Kortom de dingen die er tussen mensen kunnen spelen als zij enige vorm van relatie aangaan.Hans R.J. West
